Johannes A. Gaertner

In December, 2001, the daughter of Johannes A. Gaertner send me an e-mail because she found her father quoted (above) on this web site, from a biography that she wrote about him. It was an incredibly wonderful feeling to know that such a person as her father may be the most apt description I could think of to describe the wonderful members of the PROJECT!'s Board of Trustees because each one is very special in their own way, collectively caring, and always concerned about our Mission.

The members of the founding council* were few, but powerful in their open caring for human dignity and all peoples. Planning time was imperative, especially working with physicians, and other busy individuals - its always said when a job needs doing find a busy person. Our next recruitment phase was two honorary national board committee chairs - HONORARY! The Founding Council physicians time is minimal, however, once again, the busiest people seem to have a capacity to give the most.

Every member of the chartering board of trustees (*) are caring, brave, determined, dedicated and blessed by the collective spirit of all of us working together to detect breast cancer early, and save thousands of women from maiming and death. There is little doubt that any of this group puts monetary status above lives!

A Candidate for the Board of Trustees must present their credentials to us and a review of their philanthropic history, knowledge of board responsibilities of trust, care and obedience, and willingness to serve the mission, and avoid any and all conflict of interest.

We also decided that we need to have youth represented on the board because young women must be reached earlier and earlier to make them aware of breast cancer. That has been achieved.
