Daniel Ruchman

Senior Financial Executive

Daniel Ruchman is a senior financial executive who is effective in both the boardroom and “the trenches.” He brings a broad range of experience in financial, operations and administrative management across a variety of industries including healthcare, high tech and personal products. Mr. Ruchman has demonstrated a significant record of accomplishment and proven track record of success in the areas of business strategy, financial planning, strategic cost control, asset management and corporate governance. Selected achievements include:

  • Reengineered the strategic planning and budget processes of a $200 million consumer products manufacturing and marketing business, enabling sales to triple in five years and profitability to rise ten-fold, to 28% pretax margins;
  • Worked closely with the CEO and management team of a $12 million biotechnology company to conclude a $100+ million multi-year business deal;
  • Directed a consulting client hands-on through a 100% successful IRS audit;
  • Cleaned up two years of a client’s financial books by performing complex forensic accounting, and resolving smoothly with the firm’s Big 4 auditors;
  • Personally negotiated special pay arrangements with over 70 individual creditors to keep a financially stressed $5 million high-tech company running.

Ruchman served most recently as vice president finance & administration at Phyton, Inc., a biotechnology company in upstate NY., with a subsidiary in Germany. He implemented cost accounting, and led several major projects including venture financing, tax planning, and the overhaul of financial systems, insurance coverages, stock options and human resource management.

Previously, he was director of finance at Thomson Publishing’s Lawyers Cooperative Publishing subsidiary in Rochester, NY. He implemented a new financial system to facilitate a total business reorganization to a decentralized structure, and created a new business development function to oversee acquisitions, enabling six such acquisitions in the first year.

Prior to that, Mr. Ruchman was the director of financial planning & analysis for Bausch & Lomb, overseeing that $2 billion corporation’s strategic planning, capital budgeting, annual operating planning process and ongoing financial forecasting and analysis. He previously held operational, financial and management positions with Computer Consoles Inc., a Rochester telecommunication and office systems manufacturer and marketer; Inslaw Inc., a Washington, D.C. developer and marketer of case management software systems; and Transamerica Mortgage Company, then one of the largest mortgage banking firms in the U.S., based in San Francisco.

Mr. Ruchman holds a BA degree in History from Princeton University and an MBA from the Yale School of Management. He is a member of Financial Executives International, the Financial Executives Networking Group, the Rochester BioCluster and the San Francisco BioE2E. He served on the Advisory Board for the Tech Ventures investment fund, currently serves on the Advisory Board for Rochester Institute of Technology’s College of Liberal Arts.

Ruchman has received frequent recognition for his effective hands-on leadership style. When not working, he enjoys hiking, reading, NBA basketball and a lively discussion on almost any topic. He also plays a “mean” piano, with a repertoire ranging from Beethoven to the Beatles, to a get-down rhythm and blues.
