(formerly, Director of the Breast Center, Johns Hopkins
thru 2000)
I met Dr. Dooley in a newsgroup
where we are both in and out of helping the users who
were there for support regarding breast cancer. Most of
the time, if I went in and found him there, I left,
knowing someone was there for the users. Often I read his
kind, brief, thorough answers to them, and most of all
the empowerment he was able to impart to others by
opening informing them of their rights as a patient, the
meaning of medical terminology, the FDA regulations
regarding who has the right to ownership of the original
mammograms, etc. Of course, everyone there loved,
"Our Dr. Dooley!"
We communicated a few times via e-mail regarding
different things concerning breast cancer, patients who
we were working with, etc. I came to the point of
admiring this physician so much because of the time he
gave to the Internet public - not through a self-serving
web site, nor through advertising, but because he
obviously cares. Dr. Dooley had done a great deal for
women - and though he speaks kindly and with admiration
for some of the other physicians we've discussed, it is
this physician who deserves the accolades.
Personally, I can't think of another doctor who even
thinks s/he has any extra time to help people worldwide -
even though some take frequent vacations - many seem to
be "overworked." It is with great honor that we
welcome Dr. William Dooley to our leadership. At this
time, 2002, Dr. Dooley is also being considered for the
board of directors of the International Alliance of
Breast Cancer Organizations. .
There will be more information from him soon - this is
all subjective observations as with the others. But, I
cannot wait to meet him! (Dr. Dooley and I spent several
hours getting acquainted the week of December 5th, 2000,
at the Annual Breast Cancer Symposium in San Antonio...we
had both attended before but of course, never met. There
are always thousands of physicians there. Just for this
moment, I shall tell you that we are even more honored to
have this incredibly well-known breast surgeon advising
us. And, his intellectual pursuits to abolish deaths from
breast cancer are most obvious, as are his ethics. His
move to Southwest on January 1, 2001 once again proved to
me that we all exist in a circular natural order: I began
my own private practice in Oklahoma - in perinatal
education and health. He will soon be writing a paper for
a breastcancer web site!)
